Childhood Abuse & Trauma Does Not Define You…it is something that happened to you

Childhood Trauma can be a burden if unaddressed. Let our counsellors support you to heal and move on.

Why does my Childhood Experience of Abuse AFFECT THE ADULT I AM TODAY

Abuse & Trauma experienced during childhood has a negative impact on your Sense of Self. Causing you to feel unsafe, unimportant, unloved and confused as to your place or role within the family or life. This can lead you to adapt to your unsafe environment where you may feel and behave in ways that will enable you to cope. This can then become your life pattern and behaviour, trapped in a loop of negative feelings and a confused sense of self. If not changed with corrective experiences i.e.: familial or professional support the memories of the Inner Child can unconsciously work to control the life of the Adult.

Some Causes of Trauma

  • Childhood Sexual Abuse
  • Childhood Abuse, physical, psychological, emotional, neglect
  • Domestic Violence
  • Abandonment & Loss
  • Bullying
  • Harassment
  • Being attacked

Traumatic events can be isolated or repeated, ongoing events. A person can also experience trauma after witnessing something traumatic happening to someone else.

People have different reactions to traumatic events. For example, those who live through the same natural disaster can respond very differently despite experiencing the same event.

Childhood Trauma: Children are especially vulnerable to trauma because their brains are still developing. Children experience a heightened state of stress during terrible events, and their bodies release hormones related to stress and fear. The sense of fear and helplessness may persist into adulthood.
